Andy Gray believes Roberto Martinez has failed to get the best out of the current Everton squad, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Everton legend is not impressed with the Blues’ home form and also criticised Martinez’s treatment of John Stones, who has struggled for form this year.
Gray said:
Everyone keeps telling me that this is the best group of players they have had since my day in the eighties when Everton were winning things.
Well, let me tell you, if that’s true and if they have got the talent – which for me they clearly have – then it’s up to the coach to bring out the best in them and get them playing in a way that brings success and he has failed to do that.
They have won only four home league games this season and with this group of players that is just not good enough.

Everton’s season was effectively ended on Saturday after their F.A Cup Semi-Final loss to Manchester United at Wembley Stadium, and much has been written about the futures of Ross Barkley, Romelu Lukaku and John Stones.
The former Barnsley defender was the subject of an aggressive pursuit from Chelsea last summer and has been linked with a host of European clubs.
Gray won the F.A Cup, Division One title and European Cup Winners Cup with the Blues and thinks the way Stones has been dealt with by Martinez could lead him to exiting Goodison Park this summer.
He added:
I think (Martinez) has lost John Stones because of the way he has treated him this season and maybe one or two other players.
Evertonians would much prefer to see the back of the former Wigan and Swansea boss than they would Stones, and it’ll be interesting to see what happens to both parties at the end of the campaign.
