The Spaniard has been rumoured to leave Manchester United after the arrival of Jose Mourinho, who he fell out with while playing for Chelsea. Now, with rumours that star signing Zlatan Ibrahimović will be given the number eight shirt, currently occupied by Mata, it looks likely that the midfielder will seek a new adventure.

Rumours surfaced at the beginning of the weekend, in correlation with the Ibrahimović transfer, and with Farhad Moshiri set to bankroll the Blues Champions League dream there are no doubts that the Toffees would be able to meet United’s asking price.

With Ronald Koeman now in charge of the club, the Dutchman has set his sights on revamping the current squad. Names such as Morgan Schneiderlin, Axel Witsel, Kevin Strootman and William Carvalho are all potential targets which would certainly be seen as a statement of intent.
