Everton are confident that Axel Witsel will arrive on Merseyside this transfer window, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Belgian midfielder has attracted interest from all over Europe during the European Championships after making it clear that he was looking to leave Zenit after spending four years in Russia.
Juventus, Milan and rivals Liverpool all registered their interest but Witsel chose to whittle his options down to Napoli and Everton. Sky Italia claimed late on Sunday evening that Witsel would make his decision regarding his future on Monday and would inform the clubs involved so that either could push on to complete a £28million deal.

This may be why Everton officials now feel confident that a deal can be closed and Ronald Koeman can build his ideal midfield. With players returning for pre-season training, it is no surprise that the deal is close with Koeman looking to get his business complete as early as possible.
Should the transfer be finalised, Witsel could become Everton’s record signing after Romelu Lukaku signed for a similar fee two years ago.
