According to Dean Jones from Bleacher Report, Sunderland have made an enquiry about the availability of Everton’s James McCarthy.

The midfielder joined the Toffees in 2013, arriving in a £13million deal to work under Roberto Martinez, the man who he’d previously played for at Wigan Athletic
In Everton’s first game of the season new signing Idrissa Gueye partnered veteran Gareth Barry in the midfield, and McCarthy was asked to play at wing-back.

However, the place he took belongs to the injured Seamus Coleman, so it’s unlikely that he’ll get into the starting eleven once his Republic of Ireland international teammate returns to full fitness.
David Moyes admitted after the weekend’s defeat to Manchester City that he’s still looking to bring players in, and it looks like he wants to take McCarthy from former club Everton, having already signed Paddy McNair, Donald Love and Adnan Januzaj from another of his ex-clubs; Manchester United.
