Everton defender Phil Jagielka has withdrawn from international duty with England after suffering a thigh strain.

The 34-year-old has recently regained his place in the squad after missing out on selection for Euro 2016 but he’s been forced to withdraw.

Whether he was going to feature in the games is unknown anyway with Chris Smalling, Gary Cahill and former Blue John Stones all seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order.
Everton’s next game is on October 15th, which is in just eight days time. There is no word as to the severity of Jagielka’s injury at this early stage but with such a short turn-around, it’s not unreasonable to suggest that he will be a major doubt to face Sergio Aguero and company at the Etihad.
If Jagielka does miss the game, Ramiro Funes Mori, who recently suggested that he’d look for a move if he didn’t feature more, will partner Ashley Williams at the centre of Everton’s defence.
