But according to Gianluca Di Marzio, the bid was swiftly rejected. Chelsea have been linked with the player for a number of weeks now and was one of many teams in contention for the Ivorian’s signature but the Toffees have joined the race to sign the 20-year-old.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are said to be the teams interested, so a deal could prove difficult for the blue side of Merseyside.

The powerful midfielder has six goals in 16 appearances for Atalanta this season and is attracting suitors across Europe.
Everton recently agreed a £22m fee to sign Morgan Schneiderlin, which may lead fans to believe that there may still be another outgoing in midfield if the Toffees are to pursue Kessie.
The blues are also thought to be chasing Memphis Depay and Kostas Manolas as other potentila January signings.
