Spurs’ Barkley deal hits stumbling block due to wages

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley’s wage demands are proving to be the stumbling block in his proposed move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The England international is looking all but set to leave Everton in this transfer window, but it looks as though he will need to lower his financial expectations if he is to secure a move to Spurs.

Although Barkley has just one year left on his current contract with the Toffees, it’s stated that the Merseyside outfit are ready to demand a fee upwards of £35m for the 23-year-old. This is a price that Spurs are unlikely to pay.

However, the midfielder is currently seeking pastures new and will undoubtedly be tempted by the prospect of lining up for Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino.

The North London club reportedly have a wage cap at £100,000 at this moment in time, with Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris the club’s top earners.

Barkley will clearly need to lower his expectations in terms of wages if he is to seal a move away from Everton.
