Barnsley have made a six-figure offer to Everton for on-loan midfielder Joe Williams, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Williams, 21, joined Barnsley in the July on a season-long loan, and manager Paul Heckingbottom is looking to make the midfielder his first signing of the January window, after the Tykes’ recent takeover.

The offer made is thought to be around £1 million, for the player who has already made 28 appearances for Barnsley as they look to stay in the Championship for a third year.

Williams has found the back of the net once during his time with the Reds, which came in a 4-2 victory over Burton Albion, with the 30-yard volley earning himself the Championship Goal of the Month award for October.

The player, who has been with the Toffees since he was 7, has still not featured for the Everton first-team but played a huge role in the Under 23 side becoming Premier League 2 champions in 2016/17.
