I look at the picture above and I just remember being happier about Everton.

I was about 10 going on 11 and I never really had any social media presence or interaction with Everton fans outside of Year 6 and 7. I was proper positive about the Blues and Moyes was just starting to play some good football.

Yakubu was banging them in (sort of) and Beckford was our second striker. Fellaini was starting to hit his peak as one of the best attacking players in the league and Tim Cahill was Tim Cahill. Sylvain Distin and my mate Johnny Heitinga were rocks at the back and we never had the defensive woes like we had today. Leighton Baines was absolutely one of the best in the world, and Tim Howard was an excellent shot stopper.

And the worst thing? I’m sat here, doing My XI in 2017, exhausted with Everton and about to write down a team that I couldn’t care less if any of them were to be gone tomorrow.

You might look at the individual players and think that’s insane, but as a team, give me Moyes, Fellaini, Cahill, Arteta, Baines, Pienaar, Distin and Heitinga over this lot any day. Ironically that was the last derby that we won, 8 years ago. That in itself is shameful.

But we must’ve invested about 300m since then and you know what? We’re far, far worse.

We’re going to get slaughtered once again and it will remain that way for a while yet.
