Wayne Rooney’s proposed departure from Everton has edged closer, with Sky Sports reporting that DC United could complete the signing by Monday.
Rooney’s MLS switch would bring to a close over a month of negotiations between the two clubs and Rooney’s agent Paul Stretford, and the deal would see Rooney sign a two-year deal for around £3.8million-a-year.
Contrary to previous reports, Sky claim that their will not be a transfer fee included, and that instead DC United will take on the full brunt of Rooney’s £180,000-a-week salary.

The deal will also include the possibility for Rooney to return to Everton in a coaching capacity at some point down the line.
This follows weeks of speculation, that have also seen Rooney travel to the Washington D.C. to meet club owner Jason Levien and manager Dave Kasper.
Rooney is likely to be available to make his debut for the United States capital club against Vancouver Whitecaps on July 15.
