Everton look set to miss out on the signing of Ben Gibson, with Middlesbrough having agreed to sell the defender to Burnley for £15 million.
The Toffees had been heavily linked with a move for Gibson and, according to reports, had previously identified him as a potential summer signing to bolster the defensive reinforcements.
Nevertheless, it seems they have lost out in the race to sign the Boro captain, with Sky Sports’ Keith Downie reporting that a £15m deal has been agreed by Burnley and the Championship club.

Everton have been linked with a host of central defenders in recent weeks, with Yerry Mina and Marcos Rojo appearing to be at the top of their list.
However, it seems the possibility of signing Gibson from Middlesbrough has now been eliminated, with Burnley close to making the centre-back their first summer signing.
Following the departures of Ramiro Funes Mori to Villarreal and Ashley Williams on loan to Stoke City, Marco Silva and Marcel Brands are on the lookout for fresh blood to strengthen Everton’s backline.
