Bernard has been discussing his decision to reject a transfer back to Brazil in favour of a switch to Everton in the summer.
Speaking to Brazilian news outlet UOL Sport, the enigmatic winger revealed that he had several offers from teams in his homeland and namely from Palmeiras, who Bernard described as a “huge club”.
Palmeiras are a huge club and have been doing very well in all competitions. Several clubs in Brazil came to me, but I thought it wasn’t the time to go back. I still wanted to enjoy European football.
Bernard declined this chance to return to Brazil, however, as he was keen to stay in Europe and test himself in the Premier League.

Everton completed the signing of Bernard on the final day of the summer transfer window, as they tied up a free transfer following his contract’s expiration at Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Toffees star also discussed the prospect of featuring for his national team, following teammate Richarlison’s recent integration into the Brazil squad.
Of course, any player who is called up one day and then not again has the desire to return to the national team. I will work at Everton and meanwhile, cheer for Richarlison, who’s doing very well in Brazil’s shirt.
Bernard has featured on a more frequent basis as the early stages of the season have progressed, with Marco Silva deploying the creative 26-year-old from the left-hand side.
