Everton v Crystal Palace – Alex’s XI

We’re in the twilight of the season, and it hasn’t half been a grind.

There have been ups and plenty of downs. The ups have come more recently, with an incredible run against the top six teams, beating three in five weeks after not beating one in three years.

Mr Silva’s Everton are starting to take shape in the latter portions of the season, and it will leave us with an excitement over summer.

But there have been some rough parts in this latest purple patch. The performance against Fulham was a throwback to the worst of Everton, while the collapse at Newcastle was a signal that Jordan Pickford could still be a liability.

However, as I am ever the eternal optimist, I can see the positives far outweigh any negatives. We have a terrific, positive manager with significant financial backing.

And the best part of it all is that we have a team we can be proud of once again. Whether its the academy-fostered superstars dotted in and around the first team, the best left-back in world football, a pair of Brazilian wingers that live to excite, or a defence that has truly turned a corner to become one of the country’s best units once again.

There’s plenty to be proud of to be an Evertonian in 2019, and that’s a remarkable feeling.
