Michael Keane’s development over the past 18 months has been meteoric. Coming from a position where every move was a step in the wrong direction, to being Everton’s leader at the back, Keane has certainly improved his own fortunes.
Yerry Mina has also come on in great strides this season so far, with the Colombian’s early performances having eased many fans fears, with the centre-back initially not being seen as the ideal replacement for Kurt Zouma.

But, as we’ve mentioned before, there is something about being conclusive and have a determined answer that also tends to lead fans into making a firm decision, namely: which of the two centre-backs is better?
Several Everton fans have taken to Twitter to have this debate, with some hailing the natural ability and potential of Mina, while others praise the determination and reliability of Keane.

Personally I think it is hard to justify calling Yerry Mina the better defender. His lack of experience alone makes it unfair on Michael Keane, and whereas Mina may well prove to be the better player in the long-run, right now Keane is the primary defender.
Keane was phenomenal last season, and Mina had the occasional good game. He has started this season well, and should he maintain his form it will be an interesting question to ask at the end of the season. However, judging it now, it’s Keane for me.
