Jack Rodwell’s proposed move to Roma might be one of the more bizarre and surprising transfer stories we’ve heard in a good long while.
The former Everton star has hit some lows in his career over the past few seasons, but a step into the Italian top flight with giants Roma marks a significant upturn in the 28-year old’s fortunes.
It remains to be seen how frequently Rodwell will get to play at the Stadio Olimpico, with Roma currently experiencing an injury crisis, but it will certainly be interesting to follow the former Manchester City and Sunderland man’s progress in Rome.
Rodwell is set to join Chris Smalling at the Italian club, another former England international who has seen his career take somewhat of a downturn in recent months.

As expressed earlier today, this might be the most bizarre transfer story I’ve heard in quite some time, although it has be borne out of necessity.
Roma need squad depth, and apparently no one else was available so they’ve pursued the former England international to plug their gaps.
I really hope he does well. It may be too late to turn his career around fully, but he could enjoy a small resurgence if his spell at the Stadio Olimpico goes well.
