Everton are interested in signing midfielder Steven Nzonzi in January, according to reports.
Currently on loan with Galatasaray from Roma, the Frenchman has been tipped to return to Italy in January, having fallen out of favour in Turkey.
Everton have been linked with the 31-year old many times in the past, from his time with Blackburn Rovers to his time with Sevilla, with the club having even attempted to convince him to move to Goodison Park last summer.
Lyon are also said to be keen as they look to bolster their squad in the winter window, having slipped to mid-table in France’s Ligue 1 this season, with manager Rudi Garcia being a keen admirer of the midfielder.

TuttoMercatoWeb claim that Everton would be keen on signing the midfielder as they look to add more squad depth, particularly with the long-term injuries to both JP Gbamin and Andre Gomes in mind.
Fabian Delph, Morgan Schneiderlin, Beni Baningime and Gylfi Sigurdsson all missed Sunday’s game against Manchester United, leaving Tom Davies as the club’s only fit midfielder, meaning Everton could benefit from some reinforcements in that area.
TuttoMercatoWeb report that while Nzonzi would likely prefer a club that are currently in Europe, he could be swayed to join Everton following Carlo Ancelotti’s expected arrival as the club’s new manager, as the Italian is a ‘magnet for certain calibres’.

Lyon are the main issue in Everton’s supposed plans to bring Nzonzi to Goodison Park. Nzonzi could jump at the chance to return to France, and aside from Ancelotti, Everton don’t really have all that much going for them to tempt players like Nzonzi to pick them over clubs like Lyon.
However, as Nzonzi is cup-tied in the Champions League, that competition cannot be used as an advantage by Lyon, which does help Everton’s cause.
Nzonzi would be the perfect player to bring immediate quality to the starting line-up while also adding another squad option, however it remains to be seen how much money Everton will have to play around with in January.
