Brazilian Toffee Earns Call-up to National Team – at Expense of Rivals

After rivals Liverpool saw defensive midfielder Fabinho ruled out with an injury, Everton fans have been met with news that their own Brazilian midfielder has been called up to the Brazil national team in Fabinho’s stead.

The midfielder’s withdrawal from the games against Venezuela on November 13 and Uruguay on November 17 has paved the way for Everton’s Allan to be called up to fill the void in the heart of the Brazilian midfield.

In a further blow to the Reds, he is doubtful for Liverpool’s upcoming games against West Ham and Manchester City, and the Champions League clash with Atalanta in between as a consequence.

A Brazil statement said: “Everton midfielder Allan has been called up to the Brazil squad for the two upcoming qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup. The player replaces Liverpool’s Fabinho, who has withdrawn with a right-thigh muscle injury.

“Rodrigo Lasmar, the Brazil national team doctor, received reports and the required information from the Liverpool medical department that confirmed Fabinho would be unable to participate in Brazil’s upcoming fixtures.”

Liverpool have not yet confirmed the extent of Fabinho’s injury, though Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp described it as a “proper blow”, before then lamenting its irrelevance to Brazil boss Tite because “he never plays him”, in Klopp’s view.

This could prove to be a real boost for Everton.

Allan’s call-up is a testament to his fine ability in a competitive team, and Allan will have a chance to hone his skills in training with some of South America’s finest talents, whilst Uruguay in particular stands out as a major test.

This could have a positive knock-on effect to his performances for the Toffees, enhancing his central role in Ancelotti’s plans.
