Lucas Digne Outlines Everton’s Champions League Ambitions

Everton left-back Lucas Digne has offered insights into the extent of the Toffees’ ambitions for the current campaign.

Despite Carlo Ancelotti’s men losing their previous three Premier League games, the French defender remains optimistic that the Blues can get back to finding their best form as the Merseysiders look to regain their place near the top of the Premier League table.

Speaking in a wide-ranging interview to the club’s official website, Digne commented:

We had a perfect start, and then we hit some bumps in the road, but we will bounce back now. To me, our good start was not a surprise. We showed our true level.

We have lost some rhythm and momentum, but we were missing players in recent games with injuries and suspensions. We will be back on track soon – for sure.

The Club did well in the transfer market. We are a good group of players – and have a great manager with amazing experience in top football.

Digne also spoke of the prospect of playing at the highest level of European football in the Champions League:

It is an exciting time to be in Everton right now. We will get back to our best and will be a strong team this season.

Everton have ambitions to play in the Champions League, and so do I. There is no doubt that we aim for Europe.

Digne certainly left little in the way of ambiguity with his comments, which should not be considered in isolation as they may well echo the sentiments of Ancelotti and the rest of the Everton squad.

This level of resolve and optimism should be music to the ears of the Toffees faithful. Despite a disappointing recent run of form, Everton had previously shown their greatest-ever start to a season in 126 years of existence, so Digne has every right to aspire towards a Champions League finish this term.
