Carlo Ancelotti Delivers Injury Update on Allan and Richarlison

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has given an update on the knocks incurred by Allan and Richarlison in the Toffees’ 2-0 win at Leicester last night.

The Brazilian duo both played an influential part in the heart of the team as the Toffees secured all three points, but Allan went off in some agony having suffered a suspected hamstring issue. The 29-year-old over-exerted himself in tracking back as he chased a loose ball and found himself replaced by Andre Gomes.

The Toffees now face an anxious wait to find out the extent of the injury to their midfield enforcer and are unable to offer a reliable timeframe on his return. However, there is a consolation in that Richarlison’s injury is notably minor in comparison, and the 23-year-old should find it easy to regain full fitness.

Everton come up against Arsenal at Goodison Park on Saturday before the Carabao Cup quarter-final with Manchester United on Wednesday and the Boxing Day trip to Sheffield United.

With regards to Allan’s injury, Ancelotti remained cautiously optimistic, telling the Liverpool Echo: “We have to check on him in a few days and then we will see how long [he will be out].”

Commentating separately on Richarlison, the manager said that his wrist injury, which required the player to wear strapping in the second half, was “no problem” and that it was merely a “twist”.

Losing the Brazilian duo is a setback, though the Richarlison news is a minor consolation.

The injury to Allan looks to be more alarming, though, and those knocks illustrate the importance of squad depth for Everton amid a hectic run of festive fixtures.
