Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed in his pre-West Ham press conference that he wants to make Robin Olsen’s Everton stay a permanent one.
The Swedish international, on loan from Italian side AS Roma, was brought in during the summer window to provide meaningful competition for Everton no. 1 Jordan Pickford.
There was no formal option to buy the player in the loan deal, but there is an increasing belief that all parties can reach an agreement.
Olsen enjoyed a loan spell at Serie A side Cagliari last season in search of regular football and has committed to a similar deal at Goodison Park.
Evidently, he is not essential to Roma’s goalkeeping elements and that may open the door to a future deal.
Asked if he would like Everton to strike a permanent deal for the 30-year-old, Ancelotti said:
“Yes, I think we are pleased to have him here.
“He is a goalkeeper with experience so I think we are going to talk with him and his agent to find a solution for him to be here permanently. It can be for January or in June.
“The games that he played he did well. He was comfortable, he was calm, he was quiet. I think he gives good support to Jordan (Pickford) also.”
He has been capped 42 times for Sweden and featured in every game for the team in the 2018 World Cup finals – including England’s 2-0 quarter-final win in which Pickford was Olsen’s counterpart between the posts.

Olsen’s ability to serve as a real challenger to Pickford has been meaningful.
Olsen has filled in for Pickford three times this season and managed to impressively keep a clean sheet in December’s win over Chelsea.
As the future of Jonas Lossl looks increasingly uncertain, a deal with Olsen should be a priority as the ‘keeper has surely confirmed his ability to make a strong impact on the Toffees’ squad.
