Everton have leapfrogged Manchester United in the race to sign Norwich prodigy Max Aarons and reunite Ben Godfrey with his former teammate at Goodison Park.
According to a report by TEAMTalk, Everton lead the race going into the January window for the right-back, who was a bright spark last season for relegated side Norwich along with Godfrey.
The full-back, valued at £18 million by Transfermarkt, is said to be in high demand after impressing in his sole season in the Premier League.
Aarons recently revealed interest from Barcelona in the summer, but big moves for his fellow starlets in Ben Godfrey and Jamal Lewis were the only major deals for emerging Norwich talents.
Aarons is still contracted to the Canaries until 2024, leaving Daniel Farke’s side in no rush to cash in on Aarons as they look to push for automatic promotion to the Premier League.
The Toffees believe that January could be the opportune moment to solidify their depth at right-back, with the ageing 32-year-old club captain Seamus Coleman inevitably needing to be replaced in the long run.
If the latest reports are to be believed, the 20-year-old looks to be the top target to come in for Coleman and a January bid could occur.
It is believed that Norwich would be willing to sell in the New Year but would want Aarons to be loaned back to complete the season.

At just 20 years of age, Aarons possesses clear potential to be a top right-back.
In the 2019/20 season, Aarons averaged a pass success rate of almost 80% and appeared in 36 of Norwich’s games.
A mainstay of Farke’s plans, Aarons cuts the figure of a progressive modern full-back.
Exhibiting huge promise, Aarons would be a fantastic Coleman replacement in the future – though competition could be fierce for his signature.
