In an unfortunate twist of fate, Everton seem to have missed an opportunity to offload unwanted winger Yannick Bolasie, who is out of contract in the summer.
He was widely touted to link up with Neil Warnock’s Middlesbrough after a summer move collapsed. However, Football Insider now understands that ‘Boro have cooled their interest in the DR Congo international and will not be signing Bolasie on loan this month.
The report added that talks had taken place this month, including over a permanent deal, but senior figures at the Teesside club have pulled the plug on a possible January loan.
The 31-year-old joined the Toffees from Crystal Palace in 2016 for the princely sum of £25m, but he has since failed to live up to expectations. His last appearance for the Toffees came way back in May 2018.
His contract situation (current deal expires in the summer) means that Bolasie can sign a pre-contract with an overseas club from this month.
An unwanted figure in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad and those of the Italian’s predecessors, Bolasie has had loans at Sporting Lisbon, Anderlecht and Aston Villa over the last two-and-a-half years.
The globetrotting outcast was admired by his former manager from the days in which Warnock managed Bolasie in south London, but a deal now looks increasingly untenable.

With financial losses piling up at Goodison Park, getting rid of unwanted players is a prime objective for Marcel Brands this month.
Bolasie is reportedly on staggeringly high wages of £75,000-a-week – an eye-watering amount when it is considered that he has only managed two goals for the Toffees.
Everton look uninterested in receiving a fee for Bolasie and moving him on as soon as possible is a must.
