Former Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has claimed that reported Everton transfer target Sergio Romero would grasp the chance to join the Toffees with both hands if the opportunity came his way.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford as he competes with the likes of Dean Henderson and David de Gea for places.
The experienced shot-stopper has entered the final six months of his contract with the Red Devils, meaning he can sign as a free agent in the summer with the Toffees, having seen a previous proposed move to Everton break down.
Since joining United in the summer of 2015 from Sampdoria, Romero has played 61 games for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. In that time, he has conceded just 27 goals and kept 39 clean sheets, albeit typically against lower-league opposition in domestic cup games or continental minnows in the Europa League.
In an added boost to Everton’s prospects of signing the veteran, he was one such talent identified by Marcel Brands when the Dutchman held a recruitment role at Dutch side AZ Alkmaar,so Everton’s Director of Football is more than aware of his talents.
It is not only Brands who understands what Romero could add, either. Kuszczak, who holds a Champions League winner’s medal after United won the competition in 2008, was speaking to Stadium Astro on whether Romero would love a switch to Goodison Park.
The Poland international said: “He needs to make a decision on what to do with his career. I’m sure if he can go to Everton, he would do it. But there must be something we don’t know that is on the way. Everton need to bring someone in for competition.”

Romero could be the ideal cost-effective replacement for one or both of Robin Olsen and Jordan Pickford, with the latter coming under scrutiny over recent erroneous performances.
With no new updates on whether the Swede’s loan stay will become a permanent one, Romero could join as an experienced alternative to Olsen in a bargain deal for the club.
