Robin Olsen confirms he wants permanent Everton move

On-loan Everton goalkeeper Robin Olsen has publicly confirmed his desire to make his Goodison Park stay a permanent one.

The shot-stopper joined from  AS Roma on a season-long loan late in the summer transfer window to provide competition for Toffees number one Jordan Pickford.

The Swedish international has certainly found himself thrust into the limelight on occasions to deputise for his English colleague and has enjoyed a run of games following a minor injury to Pickford.

In four Premier League appearances, Olsen has kept one clean sheet and conceded six goals. By comparison, Pickford’s 17 appearances have yielded only two more clean sheets and 22 goals conceded – an average of 1.29 goals per game, with Olsen’s 1.5 goals only marginally less impressive.

Since moving from FC Copenhagen to Roma in 2018, Olsen has already been shipped out on loan to fellow Serie A side Cagliari and does not appear to be a settled figure in the Italian capital.

Conversely, he cuts a more settled presence on Merseyside. In comments which are sure to arouse interest of Toffees fans, Olsen has offered comments in which he made public his desire to remain at Everton.

Speaking to the club’s website, the 31-year-old was optimistic about extending his stay with the Blues:

We want to stay, but it is not me who decides. I can only cross my fingers and see what the club says. As a family, we have moved around and feel we are in a good place now.

We are very happy, so why not stay until it is time to move home to Sweden? That is what we would choose. It is easy to say that – but everything needs to be sorted out.

Olsen took some stick for arguably being at fault for two goals in Everton’s 3-3 draw at Manchester United last weekend, but Pickford’s continued absence offers the chance for him to impress.

His stats do not portray him as an obvious upgrade to the England number one, but he is nonetheless an asset to Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, and his desire to remain on Merseyside should go down well.
