After the announcement of a possible European Super League, the footballing world has reacted.
Plenty of fans have voiced their thoughts on the proposal of a new ‘super league’ for Europes elite.
It is safe to say the reaction has been far from positive, with even Everton winger Yannick Bolasie, who is on loan at Middlesbrough, voicing his opinion.
The DR Congo winger was far from happy with the news, stating that the game ‘is about the fans’…
It is hard to argue with Bolasie’s verdict here – everything he says is correct and points out the biggest issue with it all.
The European Super League takes away the whole purpose of football in this country with promotion and relegation.
Smaller clubs facing the so called ‘big boys’ and pulling off a remarkable win is something we may never see again.
The likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Arsenal are answering above their station here.
They are simply trying to keep hold of their elite status without any recognition of what the fans or the smaller clubs have done for them.
Football wouldn’t be what it is today if it wasn’t built from the bottom and the ESL proposal nullifies that and simply makes the rich, richer.
Everton have a real chance to learn from the mistakes of the ‘big six’.
The fans play a bigger part in the sport than we all know and the sooner that they are taken into account, the better.
