Virals: Everton Podcast Predicts Denzel Dumfries Deal On

One Everton fan podcast was left hopeful that the club’s director of football Marcel Brands is working on a deal for a top target.

Everton fan podcast The Unholy Trinity (@UHTPodcast) took to Twitter to share a prediction based on a snippet of an article from The Athletic.

Concerning the appointment of Rafa Benitez as Everton’s new manager, the article noted the reason that Marcel Brands was not seen in any of the unveiling photos or footage surrounding the appointment.

According to the article, the Dutchman had returned to the Netherlands to ‘make enquiries’ over a transfer target and was consequentially undergoing a period of isolation in line with health protocols.

The podcast then speculated that the target in question was Denzel Dumfries, who shone for the Netherlands in their ultimately unsuccessful Euro 2020 campaign.

With Everton likely to target a right-back to provide a long-term option to replace the ageing Seamus Coleman, Dumfries has been heavily linked with an Everton switch in recent months.

The PSV Eindhoven star is likely to be leaving the Dutch club following confirmation of the likelihood by current manager Roger Schmidt.

“That’s how it goes in football, especially at PSV, we lose one or two good players every year,” Schmidt said to NOS [via TBR].

“It has been clear to me for some time that [teammate Donyell Malen] and Denzel are likely to leave. Actually last summer. I also take it into account and if they do stay, that is great. But we have to prepare ourselves that we will have to play without both next season.”

With Dumfries heavily linked with Everton and playing in the Netherlands, it is far from unfathomable that Brands could have been working on a deal for Dumfries.

However, eager fans should not jump the gun; going back to the original report, it looks as though any deal for the hypothetical player is only at the stage of tentative enquiries.

Regardless, it looks as though the club are already working hard to secure fresh faces for Rafa Benitez’ new-look Everton squad.
