Virals: Fan urges Everton to sign Ben Brereton Diaz

One Everton fan and football recruitment analyst has namedropped Blackburn and Chilean forward Ben Brereton Diaz as a player Everton should be looking to sign.

The striker has enjoyed a meteoric rise in form this season and recently went viral for his escapades for the Chile men’s national team.

Although born in Stoke-on-Trent, he was eligible to play for the South American nation through his mother’s Chilean heritage.

Resultingly, eagle-eyed players of popular football management simulator Football Manager spotted his eligibility – sparking a chain of events that has seen Brereton starring for his mother’s homeland.

Elsewhere, Brereton has been in fine form for Blackburn in the Championship with 10 goals and one assists in just 12 outings for Tony Mowbray’s side.

Analyst Tom Long took to Twitter to react to viral footage of Chile’s goals – including from Diaz – as he offered his thoughts.

“Brereton been in outrageous form”, noted Long.

“Blackburn contract up in summer. Premier League written all over him. Everton should be on the interest list #EFC

Given his form and his contractual situation, recruiting Brereton is a no-brainer for Everton chiefs.

The prolific Championship stare could be acquired cheaply and offers versatile depth to compete on the wings and up front.

With Salomon Rondon standing the wrong side of thirty, he could be a longer-term competitor for the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, a race will surely hot up for his signature with Brereton out of contract in the summer, and Everton will not be the only suitor in for him.
