Everton have been dealt a potential setback to their hopes of securing a transfer deal for Ajax star Mohammed Kudus.
According to a recent report from Bild, Borussia Dortmund have got their eyes on a potential move for Kudus, who the Toffees were linked with during the previous summer transfer window.
The Merseyside club reportedly had a £15m bid rejected by Ajax for the player during the summer window.
After scoring 14 goals in 57 appearances for his previous club FC Nordsjaelland, the 22-year-old joined the Dutch giants back in the 2020 summer transfer window.
Since then, the Ghanaian has scored 13 goals and supplied five assists in 54 appearances across all competitions.
This season has seen Kudus show Everton why they should be regretting not signing him in the summer by scoring eight goals in 12 appearances.
In three Champions League games this season against Rangers, Liverpool and Napoli, the attacker has scored three goals, provided one assist and earn himself a performance rating of 7.77/10 from WhoScored, putting him in the top 20 players to have featured in the tournament.
His latest goal in Ajax’s 6-1 defeat against Napoli was labelled as a “thing of beauty” by journalist Aaron Mclean.
Taking into account how Frank Lampard’s side currently have the joint-third lowest rate of goals per shot (0.06) as well as the second-lowest rate of goals per shot on target (0.17) in the league this season, this highlights how much they could do with a clinical figure like Kudus in their team and why Lampard would be gutted to miss out on him again.
Bearing in mind how Dortmund have the lure of being able to play in the Champions League, as he is currently doing with Ajax, this could work in the German club’s favour over Everton in terms of securing a potential future transfer deal for the player.
Although, the chance of playing in the Premier League with a big club like Everton under the management of Lampard, could also be very alluring for Kudus.
Moving forward, regardless of whoever gets linked with a move for the Ajax figure, Everton should still do all they can to bring the youngster to Goodison Park.
