- Hamer scored 4 goals and provided 7 assists in the Prem for Sheffield United.
- Midfielder has a contract to 2027. Sheffield United are reportedly willing to sell.
- Brazil-born Dutch midfielder has continued to impress in the Championship.
Everton are drawing up their list of summer targets ahead of a potentially massive window.
David Moyes’ side are pushing for European qualification. These ambitions raise a need to add depth and quality across the squad. One name that has re-emerged on the Toffees’ radar is Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer.
According to Turkish outlet Kuzey Ekspres, Everton are preparing a bid for the 28-year-old, who will enter the final 12 months of his contract at Bramall Lane this summer.
Nottingham Forest and Fulham are also credited with interest, but Everton are said to be firmly in the mix.
Enzo Maresca’s high praise for Gustavo Hamer
Gustavo Hamer is no stranger to Premier League interest. During his time at Coventry City, he caught the attention of then-Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca, who did not hold back in his assessment.
“And I think Hamer is probably one of the best in the Championship,” Maresca stated back in 2024. “Yeah, yeah, absolutely, I know him from before. I was working last year but at the same time when you enjoy football you watch all the competition and all of the good players, and he’s one of the… probably the best player in the Championship.”
The Brazil-born Dutch midfielder has continued to impress since Sheffield United signed him. This season, despite the Blades languishing in 17th place in the Championship, Hamer has contributed four goals and 11 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. His brilliant season has been a rare bright spot in a difficult campaign for Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United side.
Why Hamer makes sense for David Moyes
Everton have shown previous interest in Hamer. The club were linked with him in May 2025 after Sheffield United lost the Championship play-off final, but a move did not materialize. Now, with his contract running down, the timing may be right for Everton.
Gustavo Hamer is versatile enough to operate on the left wing or in central midfield. His flexibility to operate in different positions would appeal to David Moyes.
Jack Grealish’s future is yet not clear at Everton, as he may return to Manchester City at the end of his loan. Everton will need reinforcements in wide areas. Gustavo Hamer could fill that role, or provide cover and competition for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the middle of the park.
He also has Premier League experience. In the 2023-24 season with Sheffield United, he scored four goals and provided seven assists in the top flight. Sheffield United is likely willing to cash in rather than lose him for nothing in 2027. This may make him an attractive proposition for Everton.
Kuzey Ekspres report that Sheffield United have placed a £17m valuation on Gustavo Hamer. The fee may offset a few suitors but if Everton can agree a deal on a lower fee than Sheffield’s asking, Gustavo Hamer could be a good addition to Everton.
