- Everton and seven other teams are all battling it out for European qualification.
- Blues just three points behind fifth, so qualifying for any of the three is a possibility.
- Arsenal’s win against Sporting CP last night has also given the Toffees helping hand.
Everton remain firmly bunched together in the race for Europe, as seven points separate fifth and 13th place in the Premier League.
The Toffees take a trip to Brentford this weekend – who sit directly above them – and hope to leapfrog their opponents and reach the upper echelons of the league.
David Moyes has made it clear that European football should be the target for his side, and a result from last night’s UEFA Champions League action has given his team a boost ahead of the final few games of the season.
Arsenal’s victory has created another Champions League slot
Kai Havertz’s late winner for Arsenal in their quarter-final tie against Sporting CP meant that a fifth qualifying spot has been opened for clubs in the Premier League.
This is because England have guaranteed a top-two place in the UEFA coefficient rankings, which is used to rank football associations in Europe, and determines clubs’ seeds in continental club competitions.
| 1 | England |
| 2 | Italy |
| 3 | Spain |
| 4 | Germany |
| 5 | France |
The table above shows the current coefficient rankings as of last night, with the top two nations being awarded an additional Champions League qualification spot.
Everton have not featured in Europe’s premier competition since 2005, when they were controversially knocked out in the play-offs by Villarreal.
A helping hand will be music to Everton’s ears
The 2025-26 Premier League season has been extremely unpredictable as teams have gone up and down the division like a yo-yo.
Considering how tight it has been, and will remain to be, an extra qualifying spot will help Everton and their rivals.
In a year where some finishing positions could be decided by a single point or even goal difference, an increased chance of gaining European football may not punish teams who dropped points where they shouldn’t have.
But, while it is good to see the positives in an extra Euro spot, Everton must still get there on their own merit, as they are not going to be handed the opportunity on a silver plate.
Tough challenges await the Toffees in the run-in, but they will go into it with confidence, and fuelled by their desire to get back to where they belong.
