Everton visit Brentford this weekend in a crucial six-pointer that could be defining in the race for Europe.
With the Blues playing for the first time since their victory against Chelsea, David Moyes will be expecting one final push from his men.
He gave his thoughts on the European race and how the group is feeling ahead of the next seven games.
David Moyes is loving life and prioritising Europe
Moyes was asked about Everton’s current position and what their mindset is heading into the final portion of the season.
He said, “I’d have shaken your hand if offered this at the start of the season. Europe is something we are talking about, and I hope I get the opportunity to manage in Europe again at Everton.”
The Blues qualified for Europe four times during Moyes’ first tenure.
Following news about an additional Champions League spot, the possibility of qualifying for Europe’s premier competition is genuine, which has left Moyes a tad shaken.
He said: “Champions League makes me shake a bit, and that’s different, but I like the sound of Europe. Even if that’s the tiddlywink competitions!”
As Moyes is set to finish his first full season with Everton since the 2012-13 season, he claimed he is loving being back at the club and understands the golden opportunity they have.
“It’s probably the best chance we’ve had for a long time,” Moyes said. “I absolutely love the thought of getting Everton back into Europe.
“The period I’ve been back at Everton has been great for me and my family, and I’m enjoying the form of the players.”
But amid the thrill of the battle for European qualification, the 65-year-old knows how tight the table currently is.
He said: “We’re wary not to get caught out as we’re not in Europe yet, but I want to be positive.
“There are plenty of clubs in the mix, not just us and Brentford, and if another team is able to string a run of wins together, they could take one of the places.”
Moyes creating a relaxed yet competitive environment
Moyes knows that every Evertonian is desperate to see the glory days once more, and qualifying for Europe will help bring them back.
But the sheer progress he has made is commendable, and he’s transformed a struggling bottom-half side into one pushing for the Champions League.
There appears to be a healthy balance in the Everton setup.
Proud of the work they have done so far, but also chomping at the bit to climb the table.
The next seven games will be a culmination of excitement and nerves, but Evertonians will be happy to see their team competing near the top once more.
