  • Everton will look to boost their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window.
  • Toffees had a productive summer window in 2025, and they want to spend big again.
  • McGinn was one name linked with the Blues and Moyes has maintained an interest.

Everton’s last summer transfer window was, on the whole, successful as they managed to bring in pivotal names such as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish.

David Moyes has managed to turn his team’s fortunes around and transform them into a side that is pushing for European football.

But the Blues’ transformation is not close to completion, and they have already been linked with multiple transfer targets.

After failing to sign this Premier League star last summer, the Toffees may look to reignite a bid for this midfield veteran.

John McGinn is linked with a move to Hill Dickinson Stadium

John McGinn has been mentioned as a possible addition to the men in royal blue this summer, according to Football Insider.

The Scotsman has played for Aston Villa since 2018, when he helped the club gain promotion to the Premier League in his first season, and has been a reliable servant since.

McGinn’s contract currently runs out in 2028, and he has been the Villains’ captain since 2022.

At 31 years old, he has not shown any signs of slowing down and he is on track to record over 30 league appearances in six successive seasons.

Although he is primarily a central midfielder, the Scottish international has proven to be a utility player for Villa, showing the ability to play as a full back and a winger.

John McGinn would suit working with David Moyes

Based on McGinn’s age, he is arguably a player that Everton should not be moving heaven and earth for, but he would create an immediate impact on the squad.

As someone who can play in various positions and, most importantly, has the talent to back it up, the Scot would slot very nicely into Moyes’ setup.

He can be likened to James Garner in the sense that he is readily available to appear for the team, and can act as cover when needed.

With two years left on his deal, McGinn might be a difficult name to persuade to Merseyside, but if Villa are looking to sell players for a financial boost, he could be one man they look to shift on.
