- Everton have been linked with Torino midfielder Cesare Casadei.
- Tuttosport claims Everton representatives have watched the Italian.
- Brighton are also reportedly monitoring the former Chelsea youngster.
For years, Everton’s transfer windows have often been defined by immediate needs.
Whether through veteran additions, short-term fixes or players expected to make an instant impact, the club has rarely been afforded the luxury of building with the future in mind.
That is why reports linking the Blues with Torino midfielder Cesare Casadei may be more significant than they first appear.
According to Italian outlet Tuttosport, Everton are among the clubs tracking the 22-year-old, with the publication claiming club representatives have watched him several times in recent weeks. Brighton are also said to be monitoring the former Chelsea midfielder after his impressive rise in Serie A.
The obvious story is that Everton like the player but the more interesting one is what that interest could reveal about the type of squad David Moyes and TFG are attempting to build.
Casadei fits a profile Everton have often overlooked
At 22, Casadei is entering the stage of his career where potential begins to merge with production.
After leaving Chelsea permanently for Torino earlier this year, the midfielder quickly established himself in Serie A, rebuilding a reputation that had stalled during a succession of loan spells in England.
Standing at over six feet two, Casadei combines physical presence with an ability to contribute in both penalty areas. He is capable of operating as a box-to-box midfielder, offers a goal threat and possesses the athleticism required to cope with the demands of Premier League football.
Just as importantly, he represents the type of signing Everton have too often ignored.
In previous years, the club’s recruitment has frequently leaned towards established names or players expected to provide an immediate impact. Casadei would be different.
He is young enough to improve, experienced enough to contribute and valuable enough to retain significant resale potential.
That combination has become increasingly important for clubs attempting to build sustainably.
Everton’s midfield succession plan may already be taking shape
The timing is also noteworthy. Idrissa Gana Gueye remains one of Everton’s most influential players, but the club cannot indefinitely avoid long-term succession planning.
James Garner has developed into an important player, while Tim Iroegbunam remains a good option. Yet Everton arguably still lack a midfielder capable of combining physical dominance, energy and attacking output in the way modern Premier League systems increasingly demand.
Casadei’s profile suggests he could address several of those requirements.
That does not mean a deal will happen, of course.
Torino are under little pressure to sell a player who has become an important part of their project, while Brighton’s reported interest could complicate any potential pursuit.
However, Everton’s apparent willingness to explore this type of signing feels significant in itself.
The strategy may be the bigger story
Supporters have spent years calling for greater clarity in Everton’s recruitment approach.
The Friedkin Group’s arrival has created fresh optimism that the club can finally move away from reactive squad building and towards a more coherent long-term plan.
If the reports from Italy are accurate, Casadei appears to fit that vision. He is not a short-term fix, and not a player whose best years are behind him.
He is entering his prime years and could potentially become part of Everton’s next cycle of growth at the Hill Dickinson.
Whether Casadei ultimately arrives on Merseyside remains uncertain.
What Everton’s reported interest says about the club’s evolving strategy could prove to be the more important development.
