Everton and Hull City register interest in Fulham’s Sander Berge

Everton and Hull City have both registered interest in Fulham midfielder Sander Berge, with the Norwegian’s future at Craven Cottage under fresh scrutiny following Marco Silva’s exit to Benfica.

Berge, 28, still has three years left on his contract, but is understood to be weighing up his next move now that the manager who signed him for Fulham has left the club.

Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in the holding midfielder, though the Old Trafford club are currently prioritising a move for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes instead, according to the latest update from SportsBoom.

What it means for Everton

Everton are searching for added steel in midfield this summer, and Berge’s profile fits that clear need.

The former Sheffield United and Burnley man has built a reputation as one of the Premier League’s more reliable holding midfielders, combining physical presence with the composure to break up opposition attacks – exactly the kind of profile David Moyes has prioritised in previous windows and as Idrissa Gana Gueye approaches the end of his career.

Hull, fresh off a Wembley promotion, face a tougher sell given the gulf in recent top-flight experience between the two interested clubs, while Everton’s pitch may be strengthened by their need for an experienced option shielding the back four.

With Manchester United looking elsewhere and no formal proposal yet on the table from either Everton and Hull, this one remains in its early stages. Expect more movement, in either direction, as the window progresses and Berge’s position becomes clearer.
