Everton Women’s captain Megan Finnigan has signed a new one-year contract, extending her stay at the club into a 20th year.
Finnigan, 28, joined Everton’s academy at the age of nine and has made more than 200 senior appearances for the club, as first reported by WSL Full-Time. She won the FA Women’s Super League Spring Series with Everton in 2017 and reached the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final in 2020.
The centre-back spent the whole of last season sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, meaning she missed Everton Women’s first campaign playing home matches at Goodison Park, following the men’s team’s move to Bramley-Moore Dock. She is targeting a return to action this season.
“This will be my 20th year at the club and that’s special for me,” Finnigan said. “Hopefully, it is even more special because it is the season that I make my return. When I look back, I am so proud. It is quite special to have been at one club your whole life.”
She added: “It is definitely my home. It is a place I love, but it’s a place that’s challenged me a lot as well.”
Finnigan’s new deal keeps Everton’s captaincy in settled hands as the club looks to build on recent progress in the WSL, with the centre-back expected to return to full training in the coming weeks ahead of pre-season.
