West Brom Preview

Last weekend’s draw at Swansea was a game that Everton should have won. Numerous chances were created, but the Blues struggled to find the target. It was an encouraging display however as, despite being the away team, the Toffees dominated the game whilst remaining, on the whole, solid at the back. Indeed, a third away […]

Reading Preview

The Opposition – Reading Reading have enjoyed a solid start to the season, sitting just inside the playoff positions on 12 points. A thumping 5-1 home victory against Ipswich Town highlights they’re a handy outfit, but with promotion very much the priority, it remains to be seen how seriously they take the League Cup. Manager […]

It was probably the best performance for over a year, as Everton swept aside champions Chelsea 3-1 at Goodison Park last Saturday. After two league outings where the blues struggled to impose themselves going forward, eyebrows were raised as Roberto Martinez named 3 wingers on the bench. There was more head-scratching as the injured Muhamed […]

The international break is over, and Everton are back. In the midst of England sealing qualification to next summer’s European Championships and the closing of the transfer window (finally), the last week has given us a chance to reflect on the start to the season. Solid if not spectacular was how I described it another […]

Where are the goals going to come from?

With the transfer window now closed, what you see is what you get with Everton’s squad until January. It’s been a solid if not spectacular start to the season, with a frustrating draw at home to Watford followed by an impressive away showing at Southampton. A home defeat to Man City and a scoreless draw […]

It was as emphatic as it was unexpected. Even the most optimistic blues would probably have snapped your hand off for a point last weekend. What we got instead though, was swashbuckling, fluid, high-intensity football akin to what we witnessed in Roberto Martinez’s debut season, resulting in a thumping 3-0 victory. The Spaniard tweaked the […]

Where would Yarmolenko fit in?

Rumours are rife that Roberto Martinez has his eye on Dynamo Kiev’s Andriy Yarmolenko to solve Everton’s need for a creative midfielder. Yarmolenko certainly fits the bill, and his attributes mean he’s pretty versatile as well. Primarily he’s a wide player; cutting in from the right and having a pop at goal. That was exactly what he did […]

It was an all too familiar story against Watford last weekend. Whilst dominating possession, the blues failed to create many clear-cut chances, with the Hornets then scoring with the first attempt on goal. Then, after finally drawing level through a superb Ross Barkley effort, the Everton defence inexplicability disintegrated, with numerous players in a blue shirt committing the cardinal sin […]

Alas, the new season is nearly upon us. It doesn’t seem 2 minutes since we signed off a desperately underwhelming (and at times, slightly alarming) campaign with an abject 1-0 defeat to Spurs at Goodison.

With last season still fresh in the memory, enthusiasm for the 2015/16 adventure is understandably at a premium amongst Evertonians. This hasn’t been helped with the lack of transfer activity at Goodison over the summer.

Everton v Villarreal: 10 years on

It’s probably one of, if not the most important, moments for Everton in recent times. The ill-fated Champions League qualifiers against Villarreal in the August of 2005 were a gateway for the Blues to cash in on some of the riches of Europe’s top table.

As it was, a horrendous refereeing decision put that dream out of reach, and potentially changed Everton’s fortunes forever.

5 things we learned against Hearts

After a comfortable 3-1 victory against Heart of Midlothian in Everton’s fourth game of preseason, with all the Blues’ goals coming via Romelu Lukaku, Sean Maher picks out five things that stood out at Tynecastle.
