Following the departure of Romelu Lukaku in 2017, Everton have failed to fully replace the Belgian in terms of all-round play and goalscoring ability.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the latest striker to be handed a run in the side and looks to have the position nailed down for the rest of the season.
However, if Marco Silva and Everton are serious about reclaiming their spot in the top six in the coming years, a new striker will surely arrive in the upcoming transfer window to bolster the Toffees’ attacking options.
The latest name to be heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park is Espanyol’s Borja Iglesias, and according to Marca, relayed in an article from North Wales Live, the Spaniard is heading for the Premier League.
Everton attempted to land the 26-year-old back in January for €28m, however, a move never fully materialised and the Toffees are expected to reignite their interest once more this summer.
But could Iglesias be the answer to Everton’s attacking questions?
The experienced forward has struck 16 times in all competitions for Espanyol this season, so there is no doubting his goalscoring ability. Iglesias netted 23 times for Real Zaragoza on loan from Espanyol the season before, proving he can consistently find the back of the net.
In terms of all-round play, Iglesias can be compared to Cenk Tosun with his aerial dominance and powerful style, however, Tosun hasn’t exactly had the best of times on Merseyside, so Iglesias could find Silva’s style of play challenging.
In contrast, Iglesias could complement the current crop in leading the line with his powerful presence, with the likes of Richarlison and Bernard both impressing out wide in their first season with the club.
It looks like Everton could pull off a potential deal, but is it too much of a risk for the club?
