Everton preparing summer deal for Gotze

Everton are reportedly preparing to make a summer swoop for Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Mario Gotze.

According to Sport Bild, Everton, West Ham and AC Milan are all interested in signing the German international.

The report also claims that Gotze is earning £9m-per-season with Dortmund and as such, hewould need to take a pay-cut in order to join Everton.

If Everton can persuade Gotze to make the move to Goodison Park it could be a huge coup for the club. It could be a statement of intent from Carlo Ancelotti’s side that they are serious about pushing for a place in the top six and competing for a European place.

Gotze has struggled with injuries this season, yet he has still managed to score three goals in just five Bundesliga starts for Dortmund. This comes after he produced an impressive seven goals and seven assists in the 2018/19 season for the German giants.

He has enjoyed an incredible career, winning five Bundesliga titles and the Champions League across spells with both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. Gotze also won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, scoring the winning goal in the final against Argentina.

So should Everton be looking to sign a player with all of these accolades as he is about to turn 28 and potentially be in the prime of his career?

A deal could be huge for the club and elevate the quality of Everton’s midfield options, given Gotze’s ability to score and assist in the final third.

However, given his injury worries, a move for Gotze could be a risk so Everton would be wise to tread carefully and not invest too much money into a player with potential fitness concerns.
