Everton have reached a deal to sign Bury defensive starlet Matty Foulds in the January transfer window.
The 17-year-old, who has progressed through the youth system at Gigg Lane, has made only two senior appearances for Bury this season and only signed his first professional contract in February 2015.
The youngster made his debut as a second-half substitute in Bury’s 4-1 Capital One Cup defeat to Leicester City back in August and then played the full 90 minutes as his team defeated Accrington Stanley in the Football League Trophy in September.
Foulds had also been linked with moves to Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa but the centre-back has opted to move to Goodison Park when the transfer window opens on January 2nd.
He will be able to learn his trade from fellow centre-backs Phil Jagielka, Ramiro Funes Mori and John Stones, aiming to make a few first-team appearances should he progress well enough.
“Everton have agreed a deal for 17-year-old Matty Foulds, with the Bury defender set to move to Goodison Park for an undisclosed fee in January,” the club confirmed on Thursday.
Foulds is due to join up with the Everton academy side once his move is completed.
