Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin donates to cause after vicious attack

Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin has attracted attention for some commendable charity after donating funds to former Carlisle man Danny Hodgson following an unprovoked attack on the latter player.

Hodgson has been left fighting for his life in an induced coma after an unprovoked attack in Perth, in which Hodgson was struck on the back of his head on Saturday night following some quality time with his teammates.

Hodgson, now 25 and originally from Cumbria, moved to Australia when he was 18 to play club football for Kingsway SC, before later playing for ECU Joondalup.

The footballer was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital for emergency surgery due to bleeding to the brain and a brain fracture.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged in Australia with grievous bodily harm.

Strict health regulations in Australia have prevented his family from seeing him, and close friends and relatives have been fundraising to fund support for him and his partner.

That has gained the support from Hodgson’s former teammates and clubs, but some of the most notable names to contribute include the Everton striker.

Calvert-Lewin donated £3,000 with fellow Premier League professional Dean Henderson donating a sizeable four-figure sum to the fund.

Henderson was also joined by the likes of Alan Shearer in raising awareness on social media.

Calvert-Lewin rallying around the cause is a fine testament to his character.

The funds will provide vital support in the short-term to Hodgson’s immediate household and could also contribute to flying his close relatives out to re-unite in Australia.

It is a touching and noble act from a much-loved Evertonian well-known for his frequent acts of charity.
