Everton supporting Labour MP slams official

Evertonian Labour MP and Shadow Home Secretary Andy Burnham took to Twitter after the game to express his feelings about referee Mike Jones after the 3-3 draw with Chelsea.

Burnham, who was born in Liverpool, took to the social media site shortly after the game ended at Stamford Bridge to vent his frustrations as did many other Everton fans.

The MP, who represents the Constituency of Leigh in Greater Manchester, tweeted: “Referee plays minute over added time, gives Chelsea an offside goal & doesn’t book Terry. Now off home to see his kids Didier, Cesc and Frank.”

After re-tweeting a picture which showed that Terry was certainly offside, he added: “Given the propensity of referees to favour biggest and wealthiest clubs, surely time for rest of prem to insist on greater use of technology.”

Burnham’s anger lay with John Terry’s equaliser, which came a minute after the seven added on had been played while replays showed that the goal itself was scored from an offside position.

However the Chelsea defender when speaking after the game said he didn’t care whether or not his goal was offside as he was more bothered about keeping up Chelsea’s unbeaten record under Gus Hiddink.

Hiddink also explained after the game “I will not deny it and say I didn’t see it – it was offside, though it was technically perfect (finish).”

matchday.
