We went into Christmas 9th this year, as opposed to 10th and 11th in the two previous seasons.
Under Moyes, we were notoriously slow starters, having went into Christmas 15th, 14th and 11th, and finishing 8th, 7th and 7th in 2009/10, 10/11 and 11/12 respectively. So we can take some comfort in knowing that a lot of the personnel around for the ‘slow starting’ era are still here today, I suppose?
But anyway, under Martinez, on the other hand, we struggled massively around Christmas, usually resulting in very few points besides last year’s Boxing Day victory over Newcastle.
So now it’s down to Koeman to see what direction he takes us in, as we’re entering what looks to be a very interesting January, and it’ll be this period that defines Koeman’s start at Everton. The jury is still out on the new Moshiri administration.
Anyway, we have more pressing matters.
We’re playing the Champions of England.
