It’s getting towards the time where the team selection becomes based on whether we’d like to take things ultra-seriously, or whether it’s time to blood some youngsters (That sounds incredibly sinister) and try to find the next Tom Davies. I’m in the camp favouring the latter, seeing as they did just win the Premier League Two after all.
David Unsworth is doing a phenomenal job with his squad and he has said repeatedly that many are ready for the first team setup.
We’ve seen this season alone Tom Davies, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Matty Pennington, Mason Holgate and – to an extent- Ademola Lookman have all been given chances in the first team to great success.
Tom Davies has went on to be one of our best players this season, Mason Holgate has deputised brilliantly for Séamus Coleman when needed and Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had some great performances.
So who’s next on the rotor?
Well, Jonjoe Kenny seems to be the obvious shout, followed by an ever impressive Bass Sambou, Liam Walsh, Kieran Dowell and a possible re-introduction of Brendan Galloway.
We also have a returning Mo Besic for the end of the season. He’ll be playing in the PL2 game on Monday, so he won’t be in this squad, but he needs a game.
Choices then!
