Everton vs. Manchester United – Player Ratings

And breathe…A point is so much sweeter when you don’t deserve it, isn’t it?

We started the game very well, with a flurry of crosses coming in from either side, sweeping over De Gea’s net. This continued for a while until United got a grasp of the game and choked the life out of it. You could tell that was the plan from the start for them, as Ibrahimovic ran the show until Maarten Stekelenburg decided he was 17 again and tried to race out to a ball long out of his no man’s land. It was just a nightmare from the 2nd best keeper at the club.

You know, Cleverley had a brilliant first half. He really did, but his short cameo in the latter 45 is indefensible. He was his own myriad of errors and was aptly withdrawn. Granted, he was duly followed by another 5 or 6 players who were disgustingly abhorrent in the second half, so it’s unfair to scapegoat him.

Out of nowhere, Fellaini came back to belatedly cap off his Everton career with a gift of a penalty, which Leighton Baines converted. If I could, I’d throw Fellaini in the ratings and give him a 10 for a superb, albeit fleeting return to Goodison.

And that was that. We threatened with a few late chances through Enner Valencia but failed to capitalise on a raucous atmosphere.

It’s easy to look back in bliss over the late penalty, but we were poor. Very poor.
