On a blustery day down in the Midlands, Everton came from behind to beat a rugged, Tony Pulis West Brom side.
After conceding an early goal to a West Brom set piece (shockingly), Koeman chopped and changed the system, which involved the early withdrawal of the disappointing James McCarthy and the introduction of Romelu Lukaku, who made his first appearance of the new campaign under Ronald Koeman against his old club. The Blues were then revitalised with Kevin Mirallas leading the way by example as he finished off a brilliant team effort and was the key to many of Everton’s attacks in the latter stages of the first half, and he continued his inspired form in the next 45 minutes.
Unlikely scorer Gareth Barry nodded in Mason Holgate’s scuffed shot to secure all three points for the Blues in the second half, as both Yannick Bolasie and Ashley Williams made their debuts.
