Four Findings: Monaco 0-1 Everton

Everton secured a 1-0 win over AS Monaco on Friday evening in their latest pre-season friendly.

The Toffees lined up against the Ligue 1 giants in the hope of capping a hard week’s worth of training with a strong performance against Leonardo Jardim’s side.

It was a cagey affair throughout, but Everton were able to score the one and only goal of the match courtesy of a brave header from Seamus Coleman, who burst into the box to connect with Oumar Niasse’s deflected cross from the left.

Monaco nearly found the net, as Rony Lopes stepped up to take a penalty, but Maarten Stekelenburg made a good save to deny the Portuguese winger.

Marco Silva’s side could have had a hatful of goals, however, as they spurned numerous chances throughout. Niasse and Tom Davies both hit the woodwork, Theo Walcott had an effort cleared off the line, and Lucas Digne had a thumping strike from range fizz just wide of the post.

Nevertheless, Everton capped an eight-day break in the Alps with a win over their French counterparts.

Here are four findings from the friendly victory.
