Howard: I don’t know how long I’ll be at Everton

Tim Howard has recently admitted he loves playing under manager Roberto Martinez but is unsure of how long he has left at Goodison Park, according to the Liverpool Echo.

On Sunday, Howard celebrated a landmark 400th appearance for Everton in a 6-2 thrashing of Sunderland but it’s not all ben celebratory for the USA international so far this season.

He has been under some heavy criticism this season, with some below-par performances and basic mistakes costing Everton vital points.

It seemed he may have lost the No.1 spot after Joel Robles started in the cup win over Norwich City, although Martinez has stuck by him for the league game against Sunderland.

Since joining on a permanent basis after a loan spell in 2007, Howard spent most of his time at Everton under former boss David Moyes. But it seems Howard has warmed to Martinez just as much as he did to Moyes.

“Roberto Martinez came in after such a long period under David Moyes and there were a lot of ‘what ifs’ and he put that to bed and stamped his authority and mark on the club,”

“It has been a breath of fresh air to work for Roberto. He’s someone I have the utmost respect for. I’ve come to love and enjoy the way he manages the team and the players.

“It has been a fantastic transition and this is now his club” he added.

“David Moyes brought me here. He promised me a lot of things, all of which came true.“He said this would be a great club, and the fanbase when we travel away from home is second to none in England, and they are.

“It’s a really family-oriented, hard-working atmosphere here, one that I could get to grips with and enjoy.”

Despite his admiration for Roberto Martinez, he is still unsure of where his future lies.

“I don’t know where I go from here.

“It’s fun to talk about landmarks when you pass them, but I’ve never really spoken ever about them when they are on the horizon.

“They come with hard work and dedication to your craft, you just want to get out there and make your mark and eventually over the course of weeks and months and years, you pick your head up and there you are.”

Howard also went on to speak of his pride in reaching 400 appearances Everton.

“It is amazing,” said the goalkeeper. “I remember my first game for Everton. The fact I’ve pulled that shirt on 400 times is hard to wrap my head around.

“It’s an impressive target, and something that means a lot to me. I’ve enjoyed every minute of being an Evertonian and being here. Being a part of this famous club is special to me.”

Everton takes the trip to London to face West Ham, a fixture they have enjoyed in recent years and Howard will hope to carry on the momentum from the win over Sunderland from Sunday.

An Everton win could see them close the gap to with West Ham to one point.
