‘I didn’t want to wait anymore for Everton’ – Favre

Newly appointed Nice manager Lucien Favre is said to have been on Everton’s managerial shortlist, according to The Mirror.

The Swiss manager – who led Borussia Monchengladbach into the Champions League last season for the first time in 37 years – was wanted by Everton but instead opted to join French Ligue 1 outfit OCG Nice.

Favre has reportedly said he didn’t want to ‘wait anymore’ for Everton’s advances after hearing of Nice’s offer. Favre made the decision to leave Borussia Mönchengladbach in September last year, who he had managed for five-and-a -half years.

I know that I was on Everton’s shortlist, but I didn’t want to wait any more.

Favre joins a list of managers who have been linked to the Everton job following Roberto Martinez’s departure, with no manager a clear front runner at the moment.

Ex-Everton boss David Moyes has been strongly linked to the club he managed for eleven years but a fan backlash may make new owner Farhad Moshiri aware of wounds which some Everton fans would argue have not yet healed.

The most likely candidate now looks like Frank De Boer, as the likes of Ronald Koeman and Unai Emery are still under contract whilst De Boer has left his post as Ajax manager.
