Everton have made an offer for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to reports in the Italian media.
Renowned sports daily La Gazetta dello Sport understands that the Blues have tabled an bid for the promising Frenchman, who impressed at the heart of defence for the Serie A side after a summer move from Genk.
Koulibably, 24, has also attracted the attention of Premier League rivals Southampton and West Ham, and could be set to leave the Naples side this summer.
Everton, who have also been linked with Udinese’s Thomas Heurtaux and Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk, amongst others, are believed to be in the market for at least one central defender in the coming weeks, with Roberto Martinez once again reaffirming his desire to add to his squad after yesterday’s friendly defeat against Villarreal.
Update: Koulibaly’s agent has since told Tuttomercado that his client is unlikely to join Everton this summer.
“I don’t know anything about interest from Everton for him,” Bruno Satin said.
“He hasn’t asked to leave, he’s played in these first few friendlies and is 100 per cent at the centre of Napoli’s project.
“For a player of his age and value there will always be interest, but everything comes down to the club wanting to sell a player and the player wanting to leave.”
He added: “In the case of Kalidou there is no such desire and the club also wants to keep him.”
