- Garner has recorded 2 assists across March’s 3 Premier League games for Everton.
- Moyes secured victories at home to Burnley and Chelsea in March’s three games.
- The 3-0 win over Chelsea created the best atmosphere so far at the Hill Dickinson.
Everton’s resurgence under David Moyes has been one of the stories of the Premier League season. The Toffees have climbed from relegation contenders to European hopefuls, and the month of March provided further evidence of their progress. Now, that progress has been recognised at the highest level.
James Garner and David Moyes have both been nominated for the Premier League’s monthly awards for March. Garner is shortlisted for Player of the Month, while Moyes is in contention for Manager of the Month after guiding Everton to wins over Burnley and Chelsea.
James Garner records an outstanding March
Garner recorded two assists across Everton’s three Premier League games in March. He created goals against Burnley and Chelsea, including a sublime through ball for Beto’s opener in the 3-0 victory over the Blues. He also impressed while operating at right-back against league-leading Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The 25-year-old’s form earned him his first senior England call-up last week, capping a memorable month. He now has six Premier League assists for the season, level with Jack Grealish for the most in the Everton squad.
Speaking after the Chelsea win, Garner told Everton: “I’m trying to do everything. I’m trying to win the ball, I’m trying to create, I’m trying to score and I’m trying to lead. Whatever I can do. If I can’t affect the game one way, I’ll be affecting it the other way.”
David Moyes was full of praise for his midfielder after the Chelsea performance. “I might be biased but, for me, he was the best player on the pitch,” the Everton manager said.
James Garner is up for the award alongside Bruno Fernandes, Morgan Gibbs-White, Anthony Gordon, Alex Iwobi, David Raya and Danny Welbeck.
Moyes leading Everton’s European charge
David Moyes has been nominated for Manager of the Month after overseeing victories at home to Burnley and Chelsea in March. The 3-0 dismantling of Chelsea was Everton’s best performance yet at Hill Dickinson Stadium, and it secured successive league wins at their new home for the first time.
The Toffees’ only defeat in March came against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, though they were well-placed to take a point before two late goals decided the game. With fifth place expected to be enough for Champions League qualification, Moyes’ side are now just three points behind city rivals Liverpool.
The nominations cap a remarkable turnaround for both player and manager. Garner has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent midfielders, while Moyes has transformed a team that was one point above the relegation zone when he took over last season.
Everton return to action after the international break with seven games remaining. European football is in their sights, and the recognition from the Premier League reflects the scale of their achievement.
